Weapon trainers and the weapon skill system were removed in Cataclysm, but both are back in full force in WoW Classic. With this system, players will have to travel to weapon trainers to learn to use weapon types their class cannot use by default.

Additionally, to learn how to use a new weapon type effectively, you’ll have to whack on mobs to increase your proficiency with it.

It’s recommended you try to get your proficiency up in weapons you intend to use at endgame earlier rather than later, as the most effective way to level up your weapon skills is to just auto-attack enemies. It takes a heck of a long time to get to ~300 in a weapon skill if you start with a new weapon type late.

Before we get into the locations of each weapon trainer in WoW Classic, let’s go over which weapons each class can learn proficiency in, provided they visit the appropriate weapon trainers.

A Couple of Things to Note:

Some races start with different weapons in certain classes than others Shamans learn to use two-handed axes and maces via the third-tier Two-handed Axes and Maces talent Priests, Mages, and Warlocks are able to use wands without training, and they can use wand attacks via the Shoot ability in their skill book

Weapon Trainer Locations By City

Training in a new weapon costs a mere 10 silver and can be done at Level One for any class; however, to learn to use polearms you must be Level 20 and have one gold to spare.

The weapon skill system is just one of many differences between WoW Classic and modern retail.

I hope you’re ready to swing at enemies and miss hundreds of times trying to get your weapon skills up — I know I am! Enjoy your time in classic Azeroth, and experience the game that made myself and countless others quit their jobs and drop out of college all those years ago.
