Xbox One X isn’t the only casualty though, as Microsoft confirmed that it has also ceased production on the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition, which was a cheaper version of the Xbox One S (opens in new tab) that has no disc drive. In a statement, a Microsoft spokesperson explained that “As we ramp into the future with Xbox Series X, we’re taking the natural step of stopping production on Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition. Xbox One S will continue to be manufactured and sold globally." So why is Microsoft axing the Xbox One X? Well, as they said, they have a new games console on the way (two new games consoles, if the rumors are to be believed) and they only have a limited production capacity, so it makes sense to drop the older version. But on top of that, the Xbox One X and the upcoming Xbox Series X (opens in new tab) have very similar names, so Microsoft is likely looking to avoid confusion between the two products on launch day. It’s easy to imagine thousands of confused parents heading out to buy the new Xbox X and accidentally coming home with the old version. Existing Xbox One X owners need not worry though, as Microsoft has confirmed that it will still be making games for the Xbox One consoles for a few years yet, and third parties like EA and Ubisoft won’t want to miss out on that huge Xbox One playerbase either, so you’ll still have plenty of games.
Is the Xbox One X still available anywhere?
While the Xbox One X has been officially discontinued, you can still pick one up at some retailers should you wish. As much as we love the Xbox One X, at this point we’d really recommend waiting for the Xbox Series X, or the rumored Xbox Series S, but if you absolutely must have one, here’s the current stock at online retailers: Microsoft (opens in new tab) - Out of stock. When is the Xbox Series X coming out?
Since the Xbox One X is no more, customers will be chomping at the bit to get the replacement, the Xbox Series X. But sadly, you’re going to have to wait a few months as it won’t be launching until this holiday season. There is no confirmed date, but we’ll let you in on a secret - every single Xbox console in the last ten years has launched in November, so we’d bet our last dollar on that being the Xbox Series X launch date too. In the meantime, the Xbox One S is still available if you absolutely must play Halo in the next few months.
